Human
Rights Law
Human Rights Law affects all of our clients, whether
as service providers, employers or as individuals.
In the employment law context, we advise employers
on hiring and the relationship between human rights
law and the discipline or dismissal of employees.
We are often called upon by our corporate clients
to advise them on issues such as the duty to accommodate.
When our clients are the subject of a human rights
complaint, our representation starts at the initial
notification of the complaint, and we assist our clients
through all of the stages of the complaint process.
These include mediation and investigation before both
the Manitoba Human Rights Commission and the Canadian
Human Rights Commission.
Where
matters can not be resolved they are adjudicated by
a Human Rights Tribunal. A member of our firm has
experience as an adjudicator under the Manitoba Human
Rights Code and we have also represented individuals
who were complainants and have appeared before human
rights tribunals such as the Canadian Human Rights
Tribunal. Our lawyers are well versed in all aspects
of administrative law and can take on the conduct
of the case through the initial adjudication before
the human rights tribunal and, if necessary, through
to judicial review.
